Steps to Take

Remove the old light

The first thing you have to do is to remove the old light before replacing it with a new motion sensor light. Here is how you do it;

1. First, turn off the power supply to the old light. You can do this by simply turning off its light switch commonly found in the house. Test using the necessary tools to see if there is power going to the light before removing it. The last thing you would want is to work with live wires.

2. The next step is easy as you only need to unscrew the old light unit. With a screwdriver, remove all the screws holding the light in position. Once the screws are out, gently pull out the light as there is wire still attached to it.

3. Proceed to remove the wire connections to the old light. Depending on the type of light, you are likely to get two or three wires connected to the light. Once the wires are disconnected, you should be done with this part of removing the old light.

1. You first have to install the adjustable crosspiece that comes with the light package. The crosspiece is important for providing a surface for ease of mounting the motion sensor light into place. It is not hard to set it up as with a couple of screws you should be done.

2. What follows is to correct the wires to the necessary contacts of the motion sensor light. The location of connecting the wires will vary from one unit to another. It is best to consult with the product manual to understand where which wire should be connected.

3. Once the wires are correctly connected to the unit, use a wire cap to hold them in place. Sometimes you can use electrical tape to ensure there are no exposed sections of the wire.

4. The next step is to place the motion sensor light over the electrical box bracket and screw it in place. Just like that, you should be done with the installation of the motion sensor light.

Testing the light

Since you are done with the installation, you need to test the light just to make sure it is working correctly. At this point, proceed to turn on the power back to the switch. With the power restored, walk in front of the light sensor to see if the light comes on. If the light works, then you know that your job is done.
