Kitchen Update…A Sneak Peak

kitchensneakpeak

I hope you had a terrific weekend.  I spent a portion of my weekend working on the kitchen.  I finally broke down and painted!  Originally, I had planned to paint the room a dark charcoal.  Hoping for a deep, matte charcoal, I chose Knight’s Armor  by Olympic as the final color.

However, part way through the first coat I realized that it was 1. not bold enough and 2. had a bit of a navy undertone.  After going back to the drawing board, I decided to go BLACK.  I chose a warm black by Sherwin Williams, SW 6991 Black Magic.

As soon as I first strokes went up I knew it was the right choice.  I finished painting yesterday afternoon and love the dramatic changes!  After the final touches were in place I  briefly thought to myself… maybe I should paint every room in my house black…Before starting, I was nervous to go black.  I was afraid it would be too much, but I think I have found my new favorite wall color.  It feels so fresh and contemporary.  The charcoal was not bold enough for the space, it felt drab.

I still have a little work to do in the kitchen before the final reveal, I can’t wait to share!

Would you be bold enough to go black?

My Parents Front Porch in Full Bloom

Thank you for your input on the kitchen color Wednesday, you talked me into it…

This weekend, I am going to jump in and paint the kitchen deep charcoal.  The color I chose is one that I picked up when I first moved into my apartment in Charleston.  Originally, I was going to use it in the bedroom, but I think it will be perfect in this kitchen.  I am really excited to try it!  Wish me luck.  Are you planning any projects this weekend?

The official color is…

Going Dark in the Kitchen..

Last weekend, I spent a little bit of time contemplating my next project.  I think I have finally decided it will be the kitchen…  I am getting the itch to paint again and my cream, over-sized, sterile kitchen is starting to get the best of me.

The rental kitchen is large and very open. It is not cozy at all.  My solution, paint it dark, which will help create a more intimate space.

Currently, the cabinets are a medium wood and unfortunately, cannot be painted.  I am excited about the challenge of working around them.  Painting the walls a darker color will help blend the cabinetry in with the walls. They will begin to fade away and will no longer be dominant in the space.

Current Kitchen

I am narrowing down the final color choices this week. Overall I want it to feel cozy with a touch of industrial.  Originally, I pictured a dark greige with an olive undertone.  However, I am dying to paint something in this house black or matte charcoal.  I believe the olive undertone will help tone down the cabinetry and floor best, but black keeps calling my name…

Below are a few inspirations I’ve been pinning lately…

However, I do love the warmth of green undertone as well…

Decisions, decisions…

What do you think, Greige with an olive undertone, or Black?
