Wow! I am shocked. Last week’s topic, Thibaut’s Tanzanian Wallpaper, I thought for sure it would be a BAM, but a lot ofyou felt it was too busy (click here to read last weeks comments)…
SLAM! for Tanzanian Wallpaper
Moving into a smaller space has me thinking a lot about privacy, separation and division of space. One simple way to separate spaces and add privacy is through the use of curtains. This technique does not only have to be used in small spaces, but can provide a feeling of intimacy and privacy to larger areas as well.

BAM or SLAM!?

SLAM… mostly. They have their place but can easily make a room feel smaller and less useful instead of more useful.

BAM if you’re in a tiny apartment and want to divide the sleeping area from the living area. Otherwise SLAM – I think it really closes in a space.

Looks like I may be going against the grain a little—but BAM. When done right–it can really help divide an area, but it isn’t permanent and I love the fact that you have the option to still open the area up.
I think in a VERY large space this could be a BAM! but I much prefer the look of solid room dividers like the mirror in your last picture.

I have to say, in most cases, I think it’s a SLAM and I don’t want it to be, but it is. It closes the space. Funny enough, I like the *look of it from a decor standpoint (ie with the curtains open) but I dont find it comfortable with the curtains closed.

I think that unless you have an absolutely enormous space, it’s a slam. I agree with Kristy, I want to like it- I really do! But usually it ends up looking bulky and closing off too much. That last shot with the mirror divider, however… Not sure if you accidentally added that one in there because it definitely is not a curtain, but it is AWEsome.
It really depends on the space…but I think it could be a BAM! when done right. Love the first photo of the loft with the exposed brick walls…would love to see the rest of that space – the hanging drapes work in there. The hanging mirror in the last photo is a perfect example of done right!

I like them, in certain situations. One of my friends had gorgeous drapes hanging between her living and dining rooms and they were so beautiful and gave the rooms such a grand feeling. I DO like the mirror dividing that space!

Hi! I’m new here. Can I say BLAM to the curtains? I’m so on the fence! Like everyone else said, I guess it depends on the space.

Bam for me. I’ve always loved curtain dividers as an easy, inexpensive solution to divide a space and soften it up at the same time.

Like anything, it can be done well, or not. So I’m not big on slamming anything that has potential, and curtain dividers definitely have potential.
SLAM! There are very few situations wherein I’ve seen dividers that look nice. Kinda reminds me of the old days where you see pictures of quilts dividing areas in log houses, etc.

For me, it’s a Bam if you live in a tiny flat type home, where you need seperation from sleeping area from living area. I think that hanging mirror is genius. For anything else, it’s a slam or me.

I think it’s a bam if done properly! I think it can add softness and help define specific areas in an open space. Also, I would like to add a late BAM for Tanzania. I love it!

I can take it or leave it on this one.
More LEAVE though than take it.

Slam. Build a wall, or keep it open.

This is mostly a BAM for me — when done right.
Great solution for rental spaces that you can’t alter permanently, plus adds softness and texture. Interesting question, Elizabeth!!

BAM! for me. . . . . if done right. and the pcts. you posted, they did it right. I loved the softness of the
fabric that framed the entrance or division of the rooms!
Hi – first time visitor! Spotted the pumpkin pic and had to visit! Totally agree with majority it typically depends on space… However, they have always seemed like a visual-space hog and a major dust collector to me. So, I’d have to vote Slam…
Oh this is the bam if I ever saw one! Love the curtain dividers!
