Last week I made a lot of progress in my new apartment (with the help of my amazing parents). The beginning of the week started off with the landlord installing a new shower stall and sink for me. Then, dad and I jumped in and started working on a little DIY to update the bathroom (before pictures will be posted later this week).
After the bathroom updates were made, mom took a day off to help me paint the kitchen, two bathrooms and the old lineoleum floor. In the bathrooms and kitchen I decided to use a soft gray from Sherwin Williams called SW 7065 Argos Gray.
It is a really cozy, neutral gray. It is a little cooler than the gray paint colors I used in our previous house, but it is still fairly warm. This time, I chose a little cooler gray to offset the warm, orange kitchen cabinets. The cooler gray really helps balance the warmth of the cabinetry. Next, it was onto the old linoleum floors.
The landlord offered to install new linoleum, but I really wanted the opportunity to paint the floors in the kitchen, bathroom and dining room/office. I already have a fun DIY project in mind to add a pattern to the floor in the dining/office area. We primed the linoleum the day before the movers arrived and painted the floors a deep charcoal, SW7068 Grizzle Gray Friday evening (pictures to come soon).
Finally, after almost three weeks without my furniture, it arrived Thursday morning. The movers pulled box after box out of the truck, stacking them in my apartment, in the hallway and on the front porch. They moved almost 2400 sq. feet of boxes and furniture into my new 800 sq. foot apartment. You could hardly move. Friday morning and afternoon I started to slowly unpack, with the help of my mom we are slowly getting the apartment under control.
I am not going to lie, when I first stepped foot into the apartment Thursday evening, after driving 1300 miles from New Mexico, I was concerned. The apartment needed a lot of work, and was a lot smaller than I was used to, however now I am up for the challenge. We have started making progress on it and my furniture has arrived, I know I am going to love it. I am so excited about the possibilities…
One last look at the house in Clovis, after all of the boxes had been packed and the furniture was moved out…
I hope you had a terrific weekend. Did you work on any projects around the house?

Elizabeth, your new home, no matter it’s size will be so you! Love that you are painting the tired old linoleum floors and I am sure that every other project you undertake will inject a little more charm and hominess into the place. Hope you enjoy the process.

How exciting! While it will be a change, I’m sure it will feel like home very soon. Are you considering a post covering how to paint linoleum? I’m sure many of us would benefit from that!

Sounds like you had a very productive week which is great. And it’s so nice that you’ll be able to make some changes and updates to this place to make it yours – I feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of that more now with rentals and it’s awesome. I really like your paint choices and look forward to see how they turn out in your place. We were away most of the weekend so I’ve got to-do list galore to get to tonight when I get home.

What a brave girl you are. Hope the landlord appreciates all you’ll do to make your new place a home.
It’s fun to challenge yourself to fixup something to see how wonderful you can make it and you sure will with all your ideas and energy. Glad you have help from your parents.
When we moved from MT to KY we bought a house that had a much smaller bedroom but once I got all the “stuff” in I grew to love how cozy it was. Always felt very safe in that room and I’m sure I had way too much furniture in it. Once you get your stamp on your new home you’ll love it.
Look forward to seeing how everything turns out in your new apartment Elizabeth. And good luck unpacking and getting settled!!
