Tell Me Tuesday…BAM or SLAM!?

Good morning.  I am sorry for the delay in post this AM.  I have been fighting a slow internet connection all morning.

Last weekend, I went to see The Words starring Bradley Cooper and Dennis Quaid.  The movie was pretty good, but really struck me was the apartment Bradley Cooper lived in with his wife.  It was a small studio in New York designed in a masculine slightly industrial style (I searched and search for photos and could not find anything online).  In at least one kitchen scene I noticed a simple, dark gray linen skirt front on the kitchen sink.  It was such a simple detail, but I really thought it dressed the kitchen sink up beautifully.

Skirted sinks are nothing new, but I think they usually tend to look a little country for my taste.  However, I did love the look in The Words and started researching the trend a little further…

How do you feel about skirted sinks?  Are you a fan?

As you can see from the photos above.  There are so many different looks/styles that can be achieved by skirting a sink. I have definitely changed my tune about them all being “too country.”

  1. I actually like skirted sinks. I don’t have any but they do add charm in many situations.

  2. I’ve always seen them as a classic and a great opportunity to add a little softness to spaces that typically are pretty hard edged & hard working. Their style approach & feel is all in the details. BAM for sure!

  3. i like them, but i always think about how they need to be washable because under a sink they are bound to get so filthy. but i do like the look so overall bam.

  4. Bam! Love the look though it would need to be done up in an easy care fabric. So nice to have you back Elizabeth! Your new place looks charming and seems to be a perfect canvas for a fresh start!

  5. Love the look, very concerned about the maintenance. In this case, pretty wins out – so I give it a bam!

  6. I like the look! I prefer shorter ones under farmhouse sinks to the long one over a side table… but I’m not picky. Bam!

  8. I like the look but would be afraid to use them at a heavily used sink. I know I’d always be getting something on them! We skirted the sink in my college dorm room and it was a great way to personalize and warm up the space. So, Bam! I guess for me!

  9. Love it! We have one in our powder room ..and its held up well.

  10. Although the pictures you show are pretty and charming…I have to fall on the SLAM side of this look. Most people I know have their garbage cans under the sink and I cant imagine keeping the skirt clean in that situation…yuck!!
ps…I saw The Words last week and I agree – the movie was OK – but it is more than OK to stare at Bradley Cooper for 90 minutes! ;)

  13. Welcome BACK!!! I have missed these :) I’m going to have to slam… due to the fact that I know how many times a day I have to wipe down the cabinets below our sink (especially with a toddler).

  20. I love them, but can’t have them. I have an indoor dog – a Great Dane! who would love to see what’s behind the curtain! LOL

  21. I do like them, but they do kind of give a more country or feminine vibe to a space. I guess it’s BAM for me, depending on the house or room you use them in.

  25. I have been wanting to see that movie, Elizabeth! Did you like it??
Skirted sinks = BAM, especially if the skirt is tailored and not ruffled. :)

  26. I love them, so it’s a BAM from me! I think I need to try this in my own home.

  27. First, Bradley Cooper – yes please. And he’s from right here in PA – woop! Skirts I’m going to give a bam. I think it can be an inexpensive way to add some pattern and color into a space, and also to hide some dirty secrets.

  28. A day late–but I will give it a bam. It’s not ideal—but a great storage solution!!

  29. BAM – I’ve never had one in my kitchen, but I have had one in my laundry room which has added a pretty, fabric detail to an otherwise boring space and was easily kept clean due to infrequent use. Don’t think I’d like one in my kitchen though and like many have said, it would likely get pretty grungy with daily use.

  30. Glad you’re back Elizabeth! I agree that in certain situations and spaces, a skirted sink could be really unique. The images you showed are fabulous. I’m a bam on this.

  31. I love them depending on the situation and character of the home. Farmhouse – Yes, Laundry Room – Yes! BAM

As much as I love them, I think I would have a hard time putting them in my own house, as I don’t have any exposed sinks not on a counter.
