Guest Post: Elizabeth from Little Black Door

Hi Mustard Ceiling-ers! I’m Elizabeth from little black door and I’m jazzed to help out Elizabeth in the midst of her big move. I wanted to share a project that I couldn’t pass up, literally.

Those of you who read my blog know that I found this in the trash a few months back. Well, the side of the road to be more accurate. I pumped those brakes and jumped out to grab the sucker. Storage in the family room is always needed and a great corner cabinet for zero bucks – yes please. I loved her side moldings, her cute little kick plate and her nice bullnose edges.

But to be honest, there was a reason she was in the trash. Sister was in bad shape. I will sheild you from the horrors of her corners, baseboards and general grossness. I’ve got three words for you – Kilz Kilz Kilz.

But she buffed up pretty well. And after lots of caulk, and four coats of paint she was ready for some lipstick.

In addition to painting out the molding on the sides I wanted to add a little something to the inside backs. There was a slight detour in that plan though when I decided to go with coral stripes. They looked great in my head, but in reality turned out a bit too “good ship lollypop”.

So, I went back to what my gut had told me in the first place – Kelly Green. Have I learned nothing from Oprah? Always trust your gut.

And as for the inside backs (is that even a real term?) I decided to go with a great vintage map of Manhattan.

I love the way the river runs right down that weird tall skinny shelf on the end.

I painted out the sides in my Kelly Green and all that was left was a bit of accessorizing. Which, lets face it, is always the fun part!

Family room storage – check!

I’m always a sucker for a gallery wall.

Which gave me a great excuse to use something I’ve loved from Ampersand Design Studio for quite a while. (it is actually desktop wallpaper but I loved it so much I printed it off)

Thanks Elizabeth for letting me share and thanks everyone for reading. Come over and visit me some time!
