The Next Step…

Happy Monday, I hope you had a nice weekend.

I feel like I have been away from blogging forever. I miss you guys! I just looked at the number of posts this month, wow, the number is really low for me.

Starting tomorrow, I have a fabulous group of bloggers lined up to take over the blog until I am settled after the big move.  Before they start sharing their amazing DIY’s and interior design ideas I wanted to update you on what has been going on around here over the past month.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I came back from vacation to some sad and unexpected news.  Alfred and I are in the process of divorcing.  I have spent the majority of my time, since I have been back, planning for an unexpected future.  I am slowly working out the details.  My parents are flying out in one week to help me pack up and move back to West Virginia.  I am so thankful for the support of my family and friends during this difficult time.  They have been amazing throughout this process.

When I get back to WV, I already have an apartment lined up, it is in my favorite area of Charleston. I am excited about the apartment, it is in an old house in the historical district.  It has a fenced in yard and front porch for the dogs and the landlord has given me permission to “make it my own.”

The last few weeks have been an emotional roller coaster.  I am sad to end this chapter with Alfred, but am optimistic for the future.  I am excited to be going back to West Virginia.  I have been away for seven years and have missed it and my family and friends everyday.

I am finalizing things around here this week, and will start the moving process next week.  Once I am settled, I will continue blogging about interior design and DIY projects.  I will also still be designing blogs, websites and doing graphic design.  I have a few new opportunities that I am working on as well…I will keep you posted on those as they fall into place once I am settled.

I will see you in September to start a new chapter here on The Mustard Ceiling…

  14. Dear Elizabeth, I am so, so sorry to hear about your divorce. I too am divorced and a single mother of two fantastic kids. My divorce was the single most painful and difficult thing that I have ever been through in my life. It is a grieving process, and for me, one of the biggest things I grieved was all of the dreams I had for us as a family. It took me awhile to realize that I just needed to create new dreams for me and my kids. Just know that it is a process, but you will get through it. Feel your pain, grieve your loss and just know that God has a different plan for you, even though things really suck right now! I promise you that things do get better and it’s the difficult experiences like these that teach us what we are really made of. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Elizabeth,
While I do not know you personally, I appreciate the vulnerability shown by those who blog – opening up your thoughts, opinions and some of your “personage” regardless of the topic. Please know that I greatly enjoy your blog and am sorry to hear the news of your impending divorce.

You bring “design joy” to my inbox on a regular basis – hoping your blog followers can lend you virtual support and strength during this transition.

Good thoughts to you for your move.

  16. Elizabeth – I am so sorry to hear that you are going through a difficult time. You are so talented – I know this will be hard, but you will come out on the other side. You are in my thoughts.

  21. Hi Elizabeth…sending you positive thoughts and prayers for strength during this difficult time. My mom once told me during a difficult time in my life…”When a door closes, a window opens.” I know these words are simple and this process is not, but I trust you will find peace and support from your family and friends that love you.
