Tell Me Tuesday…BAM or SLAM!?

Last week’s topic, IKAT, was a BAM!

Most of my reader’s agreed last week that they love ikat, but prefer it used an accent in a space, not the dominant pattern in the room.  Click here to join in the discussion from last week.

Last week, during our discussion, one of my reader’s Vicky from Decor and Harmony brought up the topic PAINTED CEILING’S, she wanted to know how you felt about them…

Are you a fan (I think you all know where I stand on this topic :) )?

BAM or SLAM!?

Are there any design trends you would like discussed on BAM or SLAM? I am always looking for new topics.

Love the thoughts of a glossy painted ceiling as posted by Liz. We painted the ceiling of our front porch a robins egg blue – four years ago. I have not once had to take down a cob web or dusted and cleaned my outside ceiling light. Love this! and it’s pretty too!

  5. Huge fan!!! {But not on textured ceilings like mine – slam :( }

  8. I’m so torn with this week’s topic! I love the idea of painted ceilings but I’m very particular… I much prefer a subtle color than something really bold because it makes the room look lopsided to me. Unless it’s a kitchen, and then I love dark ceilings, like the chocolatey brown in the 5th picture. Overall I’d say it’s a BAM, but with caution! And I agree with Kristin, I would leave the painting to someone else! :)

  9. I generally enjoy this trend — but unfortunately, all the ceilings I’ve ever owned have stucco on them… thus making painting a big pain in the butt!

  11. Thanks for including my chevron ceiling… obviously I would call this trend a BAM! I also painted the ceiling in our recent bathroom makeover (http://thesweetestdigs.com/2012/05/01/project-bathroom-the-reveal/)

  12. This is a big fat BAM for me!! I have yet to try it though…I think I’ve been putting it off b/c I know my neck will be feeling it after this DIY!

  14. I love painted ceilings. Especially with an unexpected pattern or colour. Or even just a subtle pale blue that reminds me of the sky. BAM!

  15. BAM BAM BAM!! i love a painted ceiling, even if it’s a shade or two different from the walls or mixed with 50% white, but I love it.

  16. Its a BAM for me as well- but for some reason I fear it in my own home- but would not think twice about recommending it for a client- is that bad??
Maybe its because I switch my mind about my decor as much as the weather changes so I would hate to have to repaint a ceiling.

  17. Total BAM! Always great to put something unexpected on the ceiling….like a surprise in a cereal box! I wonder how your readers feel about natural woven shade/curtain panel comment. It seems to be the most popular treatment in decor mags and I’m wondering if anyone is over them yet…I can’t say that I am but am I alone?

  18. I like the pretty neutral ones: grey, taupe, etc., but don’t care for the bright one. Those I think are gaudy–and it would be areal pain to repaint the ceilings if you choose a different wall color. In general, not my cup of tea.

  19. Personally, I love natural shades.

  20. Loooove the painted ceilings. Repainting if the room changes color could be a pain, though, so unless I was going to hire someone to do it for me, I’d exercise restraint. And although I drool over other people’s stenciled ceilings, I’m not sure I could muster the energy. Overall, a BAM for me!

  25. Complete BAM for painted ceilings! We painted the ceiling in our bedroom BM Titanium (a very soft blue-ish gray) and the walls BM Revere Pewter. There’s just a slight contrast that I love:)

  27. It all depends. I don’t love the really dark ceilings or when the room is too small. It is very trendy though so of course so when done well and balanced. SLA-BAM!

  28. BAM for me! Have painted the ceilings in almost all the rooms we’ve renovated so far. I’m so used to it now that I think ceilings look weird if they aren’t painted :)

  29. Total fan. Boring ceilings are a missed opportunity for making a statement or cozying a room. Some ceilings should be creamy white, but rarely, if ever chalky contractor white in my opinion!

  30. A Bam here as well. Did you see the feature home in HB this month? That beautiful light blue/green glossy glossy ceiling? It’s beautiful. I’d love to do something like that in a home someday.
