Roman Shades

Happy Wednesday everyone, the weekend is slowly creeping around again.  I accomplished a lot around the house the past few days, but still have a lot of work to do before this house is ready to sell.   I will try to get some photos of the progress we’ve been making.

Our goal is to get our house on the market by mid-April.  Between finishing up last minute projects and blog designs, things may be a little more sporadic around here until we get it on the market.

One of the projects I have been contemplating is new window treatments in the kitchen.  Currently, we have mini-blinds….which will no longer do:).  I am going to jump on the DIY bandwagon again and try to spruce up our windows with Roman shades.

There are so many tutorials on pinterest for how to DIY roman shades…have you tried any of them?

Here are a few of my favorites…

Easy No Sew Roman Shades from Bamboo blinds, by John’s Journal

Little Green Notebook used mini-blinds to build her no sew roman shades.

Finally, if you’re really feeling frisky…

33 Shades of Green designed and built her roman shades from the ground up…very impressive.

I haven’t decided which route I’ll take, but I love having so many options!  This is the fabric I ordered, it shipped yesterday, so hopefully  I too will have pretty roman shades in no time.

  1. I’ve been so impressed with the look of the ones that are made with mini-blinds. it looks simple and in expensive, so that’s they way I would go, but can’t wait to see your spin on it!

  2. I made some with mini-blinds recently and love them! They are functional and super cute:) And easy to make too. I also just took some roller shades I had covered in fabric and made some faux roman shades {that don’t actually slide up and down-you just hook them up and down} and love them too. I’m sure they will look great in your kitchen-love the fabric you chose!

  3. I love the fabric you picked out! The green dots on the gray are so happy! Good luck with the project – I know you must be one crazy busy girl!

  4. Ooooh, so excited to see the finished product! Love the fabric and love roman shades….I have thought about doing them in our kitchen, but I am very OCD that all of the blinds match and love having the bamboo throughout the house haha. Maybe if our floorplan wasn’t so open it would be easier :) .

  5. I love the look of roman shades! They always used to scare me, but I’ve made a couple of different ones, and they really aren’t too daunting. As long as the cording and rings are lined up, the basic formula is very simple. And, it’s nice to have the option of pulling them all the way down to cover the entire window. Good luck on selling your house!

  8. Love that grey linen one! Honestly, I have all faith that you can make the real deal. Seriously, it’s not that hard. I didn’t look at the 33 Shades of Green tutorial but there are some really good ones around. I found a video a couple years ago and made one. Would love to make one for our kitchen, but haven’t gotten around to it. :) Good luck!

  9. I’m anxious to see what you decide on, I need some for my kitchen as well. Love your fun fabric!

  17. Because you are planning to sell your home, you may want to reconsider the idea of roman shades. There has been a lot of concern and discussion of the safety of this type of window coverings. There was a lawsuit recently in Colorado that included the previous homeowners and workroom for damages from roman shades. http://www.windowcoverings.org/pdfs/Safety_Alert.pdf
I would recommend pull shades. They are easier to make and install and don’t have any of the risk of cords. There are even kits to make shades that look like roman shades, but operate like a pull shade.
    I enjoy reading your blog.
