Decorating Tips for Renters

One of my reader’s emailed me a few weeks ago and asked me if I could share a few simple decorating tips for renters.  She and her husband recently moved into a rental home and they are limited to what can they can do to make it feel like “home.”

I thought I would run a small series over the next few weeks on easy ways to decorate a rental.  Here are a few simple tips to get them started on the right track…

 Soften your Space with Fabric…

On the walls
Add color and pattern to your rental by framing fabric and hanging  it on the walls
.
or wrap a large piece of plywood in a fun fabric and prop it against the wall.
On the windows
Take down those rental mini-blinds (save them to hang back up when you leave)
and soften up your windows by hanging curtains.
On the furniture
Bring new life to old furniture with slipcovers

Create a focal wall in the bedroom with an upholstered headboard.

Use throw pillows as an easy, inexpensive way to add color, pattern and  your style to a rental.

Next Thursday we’ll talk accessories…
